Although avocados are high in fat, the fat is mostly monounsaturated fat (like that in olive oil)> Monounsaturated fat has been shown to lower total cholesterol levels. Florida avocados have slightly less fat (and calories) than California varieties. Here's a lower-calorie version of everyone's favorite dip. Blend all ingredients; adjust seasonings to taste. Chill before serving. Makes 2 cups. PER 2 TBSP. SERVING: 36 calories and 2 grams of fat. Note: Burying an avacado pit in guacamole will not help keep it from turning brown; lemon or lime juice must be included in the recipe. |
